What it is
In Catalonia the vehicle technical inspection (ITV) is carried out by stations authorised by the Generalitat; the operators are Applus Iteuve, TÜV Rheinland, Controlauto, TÜV SÜD Atisae and Itevelesa. The vehicle's owner must have it pass the inspections that apply. The Generalitat sends owners of vehicles registered in Catalonia the notice of the first periodic inspection; later ones are notified by the entity that carried out the last inspection, if it was at a station in the Catalan network. Frequency for cars (M1): exempt up to 4 years, every two years from 4 years and every year from 10. Mopeds: exempt up to 3 years and then every two years; other motorcycles: exempt up to 4 years and then every two years.

Step 1: Book with an operator

Step 2: Have the inspection and get the result
If it passes, a sticker with the year and month of the next inspection is placed on the vehicle.

Do I pay to go back after repairs?
If you return within the next 2 months, you pay 60% of the fee; it is free if you return within the first 15 calendar days to the same station (once only).

What if it fails or is negative?
Unfavourable (serious defects): you can only go to the garage and return within 2 months. Negative (very serious): it cannot be driven and must be moved by other means.
