What it is

The large family certificate proves this status throughout Spain and gives access to its benefits; besides the certificate, each member can have a card. Any parent or ascendant, guardian, foster carer or other family member with legal capacity can apply; the requirements are those of the state law protecting large families. The administration checks identity, residence, cohabitation and other public data itself unless you object; you must always provide the signed application and the family book or another document proving parentage. It is decided within three months at most, effective from the application date. When renewal is requested an extension is issued proving the status for three more months; if the family's circumstances change, renewal must be requested within three months.

Steps

  1. Step 1: Prepare the application and documents

    Always: the signed standard application and the family book, civil registry certificates or other documents proving parentage. The administration checks identity, residence, cohabitation and disability itself, unless you object. If your NIE is provisional, provide the residence authorisation.

  2. Step 2: Submit the application

    Online on the Generalitat e-office with a digital certificate or Cl@ve; with help from authorised staff at registry offices (9:00–15:00); or in person, with the form completed, at the Territorial Directorate (in València, Av. del Oeste, 36) or another registry.

  3. Step 3: Decision

    If anything is missing, you have ten days to complete it. The maximum time is three months, effective from the application date; without a reply it is deemed granted. The decision is the certificate itself with the cards.

  4. Step 4: Report changes

    Any change (address, birth, death, emancipation, separation…) must be reported within three months.
